Cotswolds Gardens & Gloucestershire Railway

This delightful tour is based at Brockworth on the edge of the Cotswold hills from where we will visit Hidcote Manor Gardens, Painswick Rococo Gardens and Cheltenham, Tewkesbury Abbey and Heritage Centre, plus we take a steam train ride on the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway.

The enchanting Cotswolds are recognised as one of the most beautiful areas of England, an outstanding landscape of captivating villages with honey coloured stone walls and thatch buildings, gentle rolling hills, beech woods and lush valleys. This delightful tour is based at Brockworth on the edge of the Cotswold Hills from where we will visit Hidcote Manor Gardens, Painswick Rococo Gardens and Cheltenham, Tewkesbury Abbey and Heritage Centre, plus we take a scenic steam train ride on the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway.

The four star Cheltenham Chase Hotel is a set in 15 acres of grounds on the edge of the picturesque Cotswolds Hills. Facilities include the Hardy’s Restaurant and Hunters Bar and Lounge, plus indoor swimming pool, steam room and spa bath. All bedrooms feature air-conditioning, satellite TV, free Wi-Fi, iron & board, hairdryer and tea/coffee making facilities.

  • We make our way to Hidcote Manor Garden, one of England’s great ‘Arts and Crafts’ gardens, famous for its rare trees and shrubs, herbaceous borders and unusual plants from all over the world, created by the talented American horticulturist, Major Lawrence Johnston. From here we visit nearby Chipping Campden, a lovely Cotswold town with a 400 year old Market Hall.

  • We travel to Toddington where we take our seats on the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway for a steam train journey through the beautiful Cotswolds countryside to Cheltenham. Some free time here to look around and have lunch then in the afternoon we visit Painswick Rococo Gardens, a unique 18th Century garden located within a hidden 6 acre Cotswold combe. Contemporary buildings are juxtaposed with theatrically designed gardens from where we can also enjoy more stunning views of the Cotswolds countryside.

  • Enjoy a visit to the medieval town of Tewkesbury with its picturesque riverside setting. We visit the ‘Out of the Hat’, an exquisite example of a 17th Century home and shop that now houses a heritage centre. Take a stroll along Church Street, lined with half-timbered houses punctuated with Tewkesbury’s famous alleyways. We then visit the beautiful 12th Century Norman Tewkesbury Abbey, built to house Benedictine monks in 1121, the Abbey’s long nave and large Romanesque tower are certainly distinguishing features.

  • Four nights accommodation with dinner and breakfast.

  • Admission to Hidcote Gardens, Rococo Gardens, Tewkesbury Heritage Centre and Abbey.

  • Steam train ride.

  • Return travel by luxury coach.
