The Edinburgh Military Tattoo was first performed in 1950 as the Armys contribution to the Edinburgh Music Festival. Today with its captivating blend of music, ceremony, entertainment and theatre, set against the backdrop of Edinburgh Castle, it is without doubt one of the worlds greatest shows. A glittering cast of performers from all points of the compass, showcase a breath-taking array of military and civilian performances with massed pipes, drums, bands, display teams and dancers all making this a truly spectacular event.
This charming old family run hotel takes centre stage on the green in the conservation village of Drymen. Sensitively extended and refurbished it retains its traditional bars and log fires and offers a warm and friendly atmosphere. All bedrooms feature satellite TV, telephone and tea / coffee tray. Please note there is no lift but some ground floor rooms are available.
Day One: We head north through the Scottish Border Region and on to the village of Drymen where we stay for three nights at the popular Winnock Hotel. Enjoy dinner this evening followed by Scottish themed entertainment.
Day Two: A morning to relax in Drymen with an included lunch at the hotel before we depart for Edinburgh. Enjoy some time for shopping or sightseeing in this captivating city before we make our way to the castle and take our seats for the 9pm performance of the military tattoo. (Please note that this will be a very late return).
Day Three: Following a leisurely breakfast we take a drive to the Loch Lomond Shores Visitor Centre where there will be an opportunity to take a boat trip. Regarded as the Queen of the Scottish Lochs and measuring some 23 miles long and five miles across, Loch Lomond is the largest expanse of fresh water in Great Britain. We then drive on to Inveraray, one of Scotland's most beautiful historic towns. Attractions include the Gothic style Inveraray Castle and the Inveraray Jail Living Museum, one of Scotlands top attractions with costumed characters and sounds and smells that bring the old courtroom and former county prison back to life.
Day Four: We check out and commence our journey home to North Wales.
