This new tour will discover Kents fascinating heritage with included visits to Dover Castle and the Battle of Britain Memorial. As well as a steam train ride through beautiful countryside, in addition to a brewery tour.

The county of Kent in south east England has played a vital role in Britain’s maritime history, and many fine relics from its defensive past can still be seen today. This new tour will discover the region’s fascinating heritage with included visits to the iconic Dover Castle and its evocative Wartime Tunnels, and the Battle of Britain Memorial atop the famous White cliffs.

 

BURLINGTON HOTEL (3 STAR)

A stylish, Victorian hotel ideally situated near the main town centre of Folkestone and set within its own grounds overlooking the English Channel. Amenities include a traditional restaurant and two bars. Bedrooms feature free Wi-Fi, TV, hairdryer and tea/coffee making facilities. Lift available.

 

EXCURSIONS INCLUDED

  • We take a drive along the coast to Dover, home to those iconic white cliffs and the busiest passenger ferry port in Northern Europe. Here we visit Dover Castle and take a tour around a fully furnished 12th Century Royal Palace and enjoy a unique visitor experience in the Secret Wartime Tunnels. We then take a fascinating guided tour of the Underground Hospital. Following this we make our way to the Battle of Britain Memorial in Capel-le-Ferne, a poignant tribute to the bravery and sacrifice of those who served their country.

 

  • We travel to the picturesque market town of Tenterden, with its broad tree lined high street. Here we have a guided tour of the award winning Old Dairy Brewery then we take our seats on the Kent & East Sussex railway for a delightful return steam train journey to Bodiam with an included ploughman’s lunch served on-board.

 

  • Enjoy a visit to the ancient walled city of Canterbury, designated as a UNESCO world heritage site and home to the majestic cathedral. On arrival we will have the opportunity to join a tour of the cathedral to marvel at its architectural splendour and learn about its fascinating history. Some free time follows to explore the labyrinth of quaint medieval streets and interesting shops.
