Gardens of South Wales

Gardens of South Wales

A new tour to South Wales that will explore some of the dramatic scenery for which the region is justly famous and include visits to some fascinating gardening venues and horticultural delights.

Enjoy a holiday to picturesque South Wales that will explore some of the dramatic scenery for which the area is justly renowned. We also include visits to two of the region’s premier gardening venues which feature an abundance of horticultural delights. Our holiday base is the pretty market town of Carmarthen, located on the west bank of the River Towy. The town has some impressive architecture including historic churches and chapels, attractive medieval buildings, the 18th century Guildhall, the castle ruins and the interesting Heritage centre situated on the Quay.

THE IVY BUSH ROYAL HOTEL (3 STAR)

The three star Ivy Bush Royal was once a favoured retreat for Lord Nelson and Lady Hamilton, an historic hotel that has been sympathetically modernised over the years. Facilities include an air-conditioned restaurant, bar and lounge, plus a sauna and fitness room. All bedrooms have been refurbished and feature satellite TV, free Wi-Fi, hairdryer, iron & board, plus tea/coffee tray. Lift available.

EXCURSIONS INCLUDED

  • We take a short trip to Aberglasney Gardens, set in the beautiful Towy Valley of Carmarthenshire. One of Wales’ finest gardens set in a serene and beautiful location comprising a mystical and enigmatic cloister garden populated with semi-tropical evergreens, a Jacobean pool garden, a Steam Garden, the Lower and Upper Walled Gardens and an exquisite Ninfarium populated with palms, magnolias, orchids and cycads.

  • We head to the National Botanic Garden of Wales, spread over 568 acres of countryside the gardens include a nature reserve and a formal garden with Lord Foster’s Great Glasshouse as its centrepiece. Having been voted as the ‘No.1 Garden to Visit in Wales’ by viewers of BBC Gardeners World, it is not hard to see why when one wanders through the ‘Double Walled Garden’, the ‘Broadwalk’ and explore the ‘Woods of the World’.

  • We have a visit to the attractive resort of Tenby with its charmingly picturesque harbour. Explore the quaint narrow cobbled streets full of little shops, traditional pubs and painted fisherman's cottages, all nestled within the medieval town walls. You may like to visit the Tudor Merchant’s House, a 15th Century town house owned by the National Trust that is the oldest home in Tenby. Boat trips operate from the harbour across to Caldey Island, owned by monks of the Cistercian Order whose picturesque monastery overlooks the Village Green and the islander’s pretty cottages.
