Described by William Wordsworth as the loveliest spot that man has ever known, the picturesque Lake District is renowned for its diverse and magnificent scenery with gently undulating hills, towering mountains and sparkling lakes. Our itinerary features visits to some of the regions finest locations and also includes a cruise on Lake Windermere, a steam train ride through unspoilt countryside on the Ravenglass and Eskdale railway, plus a journey through the mountain passes of the Western fells.
Tucked away in the tranquil Lyth Valley and set in beautifully landscaped gardens. Facilities include a restaurant and bar, plus a leisure centre with indoor swimming pool, jacuzzi, sauna, steam room and gym. All bedrooms are equipped with television, hairdryer and tea & coffee making facilities. The hotel does not have a lift but ground floor rooms are available.
Day One: We travel north to Lancaster where attractions include quirky boutiques and galleries, plus the magnificent castle, steeped in almost 1000 years of history. From here we continue to the Damson Dene Hotel.
Day Two: Today we drive to Bowness, charmingly located on the shores of Lake Windermere. We have time to look around before we board the steamer at Bowness Pier for a relaxing cruise to Lakeside at the southern tip of the lake. From here we visit the Edwardian resort of Grange-over-Sands, a picturesque seaside town with lovely limestone buildings, a traffic free promenade and beautiful ornamental gardens.
Day Three: We begin with a drive to the attractive old market town of Sedbergh, then continue to the ancient town of Appleby. Some free time here for lunch and to explore this charming town with its picturesque main street and beautiful riverside walks. This afternoon we take a scenic journey along the shore of Ullswater to Glenridding, then return to Windermere via the Kirkstone Pass.
Day Four: This morning we venture deep into the heart of Lakeland and board the Mountain Goat minibuses for a fantastic journey where large coaches cannot go through the dramatic landscapes of the Western Fells. Following this we head to Eskdale for a journey on the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway, or Laal Ratty as it affectionately known, before travelling via awe inspiring Wastwater for a visit to the grounds of Muncaster Castle. We return to the hotel via Coniston Fells and Coniston Water.
Day Five: We depart from the hotel this morning and commence our return journey.
