Rouen & The Normandy Coast

Join us on this super value weekend break to France based in the beautifully preserved city of Rouen, Normandy’s vibrant capital and the site of Joan of Arc’s demise.

Join us on this super value weekend break to France based in the beautifully preserved city of Rouen, Normandy’s vibrant capital and the site of Joan of Arc’s demise. See the splendid Gothic churches, and the cobblestoned pedestrian centre with its medieval half-timbered houses. One of Normandy's most attractive destinations, Rouen is a gem of a city with its lovingly restored medieval quarter. The skyline is dominated by the spires of the magnificent Notre Dame cathedral with its splendid Butter Tower, immortalised in paintings by world famous Claude Monet.

IBIS ROUEN CENTRE (3 STAR)

The 3 star Ibis Rouen Centre Rive Droite is a 10 minute walk from the historic city centre and its cathedral. Facilities include the Ibis Kitchen restaurant and the Bar Ibis. All bedrooms are air-conditioned and feature satellite TV, Wi-Fi, hairdryer and telephone. Lift to all floors.

ITINERARY

Day One: Early departure for our journey south to Dover and a Channel ferry crossing to Calais. We then continue on via Le Touquet and Abbeville to Rouen and the Ibis Centre Hotel where we stay for the next three nights.

Day Two: A day at leisure to explore Rouen. Discover the delightful historical centre with its half-timbered houses and architectural treasures such as the Notre Dame Cathedral, St Ouen Abbey, the Palais de Justice and the church of St. Joan of Arc whose design represents the pyre on which she perished in 1431. Another main attraction is the amazing Gros Horloge, a huge astronomical clock dating back to the 16th century set beautifully within a Renaissance arch.

Day Three: Today we visit Honfleur, one of Normandy’s most picturesque old ports, set on the estuary of the River Seine. Artists have always been attracted to Honfleur and the delightful Vieux Bassin with its boats, quays and tall slate fronted waterside buildings, plus the lively old streets lined with quaint timber and stone houses. Take a stroll around and perhaps visit some of the museums and the church of St Catherine which was built entirely from wood by local ships carpenters.

Day Four: We return to Calais for our Channel crossing back to Dover and on home to North Wales.
