Scotlands Royal Connections

This enlightening tour traces the Royal Family’s strong connections with Scotland and includes visits to the Palace of Holyroodhouse, the Royal Yacht Britannia, Royal St Andrews and Glamis Castle.

From opulent palaces and castles to ships and universities, Scotland's ties with the Royals go back hundreds of years. This enlightening tour traces the Royal Family’s strong connections with Scotland and includes visits to the Palace of Holyroodhouse, the Royal Yacht Britannia, Royal St Andrews and Glamis Castle. Our base for this holiday is the Green Hotel at Kinross in picturesque Perthshire.

A traditional Scottish hotel located in the picturesque town of Kinross, part of an impressive leisure resort set on a large estate with two 18 hole golf courses. Facilities include a bar and restaurant and guests can also use the leisure facilities at the sister hotel across the road. All bedrooms feature free Wi-Fi, TV, hairdryer, plus tea & coffee making facilities. The hotel does not have a lift but some ground floor rooms are available.

  • We drive to the city of Edinburgh where we visit the Queen’s official Scottish residence, the Palace of Holyroodhouse. Situated at the end of the Royal Mile, the palace is closely associated with Scotland’s turbulent past, today it is the setting for State ceremonies and official entertaining. In the afternoon we continue in the footsteps of Royalty and visit the Royal Yacht Britannia which was home to Her Majesty The Queen and the Royal Family for over 40 years.

  • We visit the town of St Andrews where Prince William and Kate Middleton met whilst studying at the university. A lovely coastal resort that is home to one of the world's most famous golf courses. We visit the course and have guided tour around the 1st, 17th and 18th holes where you will be able to walk in the footsteps of icons of the game. Following the tour enjoy a cream tea at a local hotel and some time at leisure to discover St Andrew’s, a delight to explore with its quaint cobbled streets, impressive medieval ruins and stately university buildings.

  • We travel to Glamis Castle; the legendary setting for Shakespeare's Macbeth, the childhood home of HM Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother and the birthplace of Princess Margaret. Here we have a guided tour of this historic castle and learn of its legendary tales and secrets. Following this we continue to the city of Dundee and step aboard the RRS Discovery, the ship that took Captain Scott and Sir Ernest Shackleton on their first incredible expedition to Antarctica.
