Southport and The Lancaster Canal

Southport and The Lancaster Canal

The charming Victorian resort of Southport is renowned for its beautiful coastline, lovely parks and gardens, plus miles of golden sands and Britain's second longest pier.

The elegant seaside town of Southport is renowned for its attractive parks and gardens, miles of golden sands and the marine lake. The majestic Grade II listed pier is one of the oldest in the country and at a mile in length is the second longest in the UK. This fabulous pier features a purpose-built tram which travels to the seaward end. Tree-lined Lord Street with its Victorian Arcades is one of the country’s finest shopping boulevards, flanked by shops on one side and gardens and fountains on the other, which form the heart of this unspoiled, traditional seaside town.

EXCURSIONS INCLUDED

  • We visit the historic city of Lancaster where attractions include the 18th century Shire Hall, the Priory & Parish Church plus the magnificent Castle. Steeped in almost 1000 years of history including the trials of the Pendle Witches, the castle is regarded as one the most important historic monuments in the North West. On arrival we’ll have some time at leisure to explore before we board a canal boat for a trip on the Lancaster Canal. Relax and enjoy the peace and tranquillity as you cruise to the Lune Aqueduct, often referred to as one of the "wonders of the waterways" and a masterpiece of civil engineering.

  • We have a half day visit to the city of Liverpool, a listed UNESCO World Heritage Site with more museums and galleries than anywhere else outside of London. Take a stroll along the waterfront and visit the Albert Dock, boasting magnificent architecture and the largest group of Grade I listed buildings in the UK. Maybe visit the museums and the city’s cathedrals, or take a cruise on the River Mersey.
