We spend the day in Sunderland which welcomes a majestic fleet of Tall Ships to take part in a colourful four day festival of culture and entertainment across the city. We also enjoy visits to the city of Durham with its magnificent Norman Cathedral as well as visit Harrogate with its beautiful floral displays.

In July 2018 Sunderland will welcome a majestic fleet of Tall Ships to take part in a colourful four day festival of culture and entertainment across the city, before they set sail to compete in the first leg of the Tall Ships Races 2018. The fleet will create a stunning display on the banks of the River Wear and there will be activities and attractions around the city for everyone to enjoy, absorbing visitors in a festival of culture that celebrates both the city's maritime heritage and cultural renaissance.

 

HILTON NEWCASTLE GATESHEAD (4 STAR)

The Hilton is situated in an outstanding riverside location with fantastic views of the Tyne and Quayside. Facilities include the Windows on the Tyne restaurant & bar, plus swimming pool, whirlpool, sauna and gym. All bedrooms are air-conditioned, and feature satellite TV, telephone, hair dryer, iron & board, safe and tea / coffee tray. Lift to all floors.

 

ITINERARY

Day One: We travel north towards Newcastle passing Antony Gormley’s iconic Angel of the North as it welcomes travellers to the area. We arrive at the hotel during the afternoon then free time follows to commence exploring the city or just relax in the superb hotel leisure facilities.

 

Day Two: We embark on an afternoon Tyne cruise and sail under the Millennium Bridge to see a number of sights including Tynemouth Castle, the beautiful beaches of South Shields and maybe even spot some dolphins.

 

Day Three: Today we spend the day at the Tall Ships event at Sunderland. The event promises to be a spectacle from start to finish with a captivating programme of entertainment and cultural activity across the city. The beautiful vessels are themselves centre stage at this breath-taking event, opening to allow free public access at set times.

 

Day Four: This morning we depart from the hotel for a visit the city of Durham where the magnificent Norman Cathedral is undoubtedly the main attraction. Explore the compact city centre with its delightful medieval buildings, plus the quaint cobbled streets and ancient bridges of the old town.

 

Day Five: Following breakfast we check-out of the hotel and travel to Harrogate with its beautiful floral displays, atmospheric cafés and green open spaces. We’ll have some time to discover this elegant spa town and have lunch before continuing our homeward journey during the early afternoon.
