Discover Northumberland’s beautiful landscapes, historic landmarks and some of region’s best attractions on this weekend break. We’ll explore the medieval market town of Alnwick and visit the spectacular Alnwick Castle and Gardens. You will also discover what life was like in North East England during times gone by at the multi-award winning Beamish Museum. This unique open air museum features a variety of recreated towns and villages with people dressed in costumes actively reliving the story of everyday life in the area. There will also be time to enjoy a journey onboard the South Tynedale Railway, England's highest narrow gauge railway.

The Hilton is situated in an outstanding riverside location with fantastic views of the Tyne and Quayside. Facilities include the Windows on the Tyne restaurant & bar, plus swimming pool, whirlpool, sauna and gym. All bedrooms are air-conditioned, and feature satellite TV, telephone, hair dryer, iron & board, safe and tea / coffee tray. Lift to all floors.

Day One

This morning we travel north and make our way to the Beamish Museum, a world famous open air museum where costumed folk tell the story of life in North East England during the 1820s, 1900s & 1940s. There will be time at leisure to enjoy this fantastic museum before We continue to Newcastle and check in to the Hilton Newcastle Gateshead Hotel for the next two nights.

Day Two

Today we journey along the Northumberland coast to the elegant town of Alnwick where admission to the splendid medieval castle is included. Rich in fascinating history, Alnwick Castle is the second largest inhabited castle in the country and one of the UK's most significant heritage destinations. It has also taken starring roles in a number of film and television productions including Downton Abbey and the Harry Potter films. Admission is also included to spectacular Alnwick Garden, an award-winning visitor attraction and tranquil haven with 12 acres of magnificently manicured gardens to meander through.

Day Three

This Morning we depart our hotel and head to Alston for a return journey on England's highest narrow gauge railway, the South Tynedale Heritage Railway. Enjoy a scenic ride through the beautiful unspoilt landscape of the South Tyne valley, an area of outstanding natural beauty. Take in the wonderful views of wide open skies and its big variety of wildlife as you experience a delightful heritage journey hauled by a vintage locomotive. we commence our homeward journey mid-afternoon.
