Come along and relive the golden days of steam at the Beamish Great North Steam Fair with vintage vehicles, steam rollers, traction engines, the magnificent colliery winding engine and other fabulous machines. Beamish is a wonderful open air museum where people can walk back into North East England during the Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian times. Enjoy rides on restored trams and replica buses, visit exciting attractions including an authentic town street, colliery village, working farm, manor house and steam locomotives.
The Hilton is situated in an outstanding riverside location with fantastic views of the Tyne and Quayside. Facilities include the Windows on the Tyne restaurant & bar, plus swimming pool, whirlpool, sauna and gym. Day One
We travel to Newcastle passing Antony Gormley’s iconic Angel of the North as it welcomes travellers to the area. We arrive at the hotel during the afternoon then free time follows to commence exploring the city, or just relax in the superb hotel leisure facilities.
Day Two
Today we visit the Beamish Museum for their Great North Steam Fair. The extraordinary line-up will see an amazing array of pre-1930 steam and motor transport including locomotives, traction engines and steam rollers plus cars, motorbikes and a fire engine or two. Entrance is also included into the main Beamish open air museum which in itself is a wonderful experience.
BDay Three
This morning we check out of our hotel and travel to York where there will be time at leisure to discover this magnificent city’s sights and attractions. Perhaps you wish to visit the National Railway Museum. Home to iconic locomotives and an unrivalled collection of engineering firsts, the museum celebrates the past, present and future of innovation on the railways. Get up close to icons of the rails including the Mallard, the world’s fastest steam locomotive. Climb on board the Japanese bullet train, discover how high-speed rail travel began, visit Queen Victoria’s favourite saloon and explore over 200 years of history (Please Note: Entrance into the museum is free but tickets must be pre booked prior to arrival via the National Railway Museum website: - www.railwaymuseum.org.uk)
