Devon, Cornwall & the Eden Project

Devon, Cornwall & the Eden Project

With the historic port city of Plymouth as our base, this tour opens the door to the finest sights of Devon and Cornwall. From the sweeping waters of Plymouth Sound and the city’s proud maritime past to Cornwall’s picture-perfect fishing villages and remarkable attractions, this journey combines coastal beauty, heritage and culture in equal measure.

Discover the idyllic harbour village of Polperro with its winding lanes and traditional Cornish character and the lively seaside town of Looe, divided into East and West by a seven arched bridge that spans a tidal river. Here you can explore the maze-like streets with their interesting mix of traditional craft shops, bars and restaurants with many buildings dating from the 16th and 17th centuries. We will also step back in time in Mevagissey, with its narrow alleyways and colourful cottages, before experiencing the unforgettable Eden Project, home to the world’s largest indoor rainforest and a celebration of nature’s wonders.

Day One

Today we depart from our local area and travel south via the motorways to Plymouth where we stay for the next four nights at the Crowne Plaza Plymouth Hotel.

Day Two

We begin the day with a relaxing scenic cruise around Plymouth Harbour. As we set sail across the sparkling waters of Plymouth Sound, framed by the dramatic Devon and Cornish coastlines, you will enjoy panoramic views of some of the city's most iconic landmarks. Look out for Plymouth Hoe, where Sir Francis Drake famously played bowls, the historic Drake's Island, as well as the grand Mount Edgcumbe estate and the striking Royal William Yard. Our journey continues along the River Tamar, passing one of Western Europe's largest naval dockyards, where mighty warships and nuclear submarines lie at berth. After the cruise, the rest of the day is yours to explore Plymouth at your leisure. You may wish to visit the Mayflower Steps, marking the departure point of the Pilgrim Fathers in 1620 or wander the cobbled streets of the Barbican, lined with quaint shops, galleries and traditional pubs. Alternatively, take a stroll along the waterfront or a visit to the beautiful Elizabethan Gardens makes for a perfect way to soak in the city's maritime charm.

B

Day Three

We begin our day in the storybook fishing village of Polperro, a traditional Cornish gem where winding, traffic-free lanes lead to a quaint harbour lined with characterful shops, inviting cafés and welcoming restaurants. From here, we continue to the delightful seaside town of Looe, divided by the River Looe into East and West. This charming town is home to a busy fishing port, golden sandy beaches and a lively centre brimming with shops, galleries, and places to eat. Take a leisurely stroll along the waterfront, wander through its historic streets, or simply pause to soak up the sweeping coastal views.

B

Day Four

This morning, we journey to Mevagissey, once a historic haven for smugglers and now one of Cornwall's most treasured gems. Lose yourself in its tangle of narrow alleyways, admire the colour-washed cottages, and discover secluded coves that reveal the village's timeless charm. Take in the atmosphere of this picturesque fishing port as you wander along its waterfront and hidden corners. Our adventure continues with a visit to the world-renowned Eden Project, Cornwall's crowning achievement and a true marvel of botanical design. Step inside the vast biomes, home to the planet's largest indoor rainforest and experience climates and ecosystems from across the globe. This extraordinary attraction offers an unparalleled journey through the wonders of nature, blending science, sustainability and sheer spectacle.

B

Day Five

We check out of our hotel after a relaxing breakfast and begin the jounrney home.
