A unique self-governing kingdom with its own parliament, renowned for its relaxed pace of life and a wealth of attractions for visitors including the island's superb Victorian railway systems and those famous old horse drawn trams.
Between the coastlines of England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales in the middle of the Irish Sea lies the delightful Isle of Man, a unique self-governing kingdom with its own parliament. The island offers a wealth of attractions including the Victorian railway systems and those famous old horse drawn trams. Enjoy the fabulous scenery around the island with enchanting glens and beaches, medieval castles and beautiful parks and gardens. Douglas is the islands main resort set on a crescent on Douglas Bay.
The four star Sefton Hotel is perfectly situated in a prime location on the promenade. The hotel is a sympathetic mixture of a fine restored Victorian hotel and a new extension set round a unique indoor atrium water garden. Facilities include a breakfast room, the Sir Normans Bar and the award winning Gallery Restaurant. All bedrooms feature satellite TV, telephone, internet access, hair dryer, iron and board, trouser press, safe and tea / coffee facilities. Lift to all floors.
Day One: Travel to Heysham where we board the Steam Packet ferry for an afternoon sailing to Douglas. On arrival a short journey along the promenade will take us to the Sefton Hotel where we stay for the next four nights.
Day Two: Today we have a free day in Douglas to explore the Islands capital, perhaps take a nostalgic journey along the Douglas promenade on the worlds oldest horse drawn tramway. You can also visit the Manx Museum and National Art Gallery or maybe take a pleasure boat trip around the harbour.
Day Three: Today we have an included journey on the Manx Electric railway to the village of Laxey, home of the Great Laxey Wheel, the largest working waterwheel in the world. Here there will be free time to explore Laxey then we board the Mountain Railway for a journey to the summit of Snaefell Mountain. Leaving Laxey we continue to the harbour town of Ramsey.
Day Four: Today we head south travelling via the Calf of Man to Castletown, the islands former capital. We continue to the popular resort of Port Erin where there will be an opportunity to visit the Railway Museum. We return via the historic fishing port of Peel, famous for its Castle and those delicious Manx kippers.
