Day One: We travel north to Gateshead for a steam train ride on the Tanfield Railway, the oldest in the world dating back to 1725. Our visit will also feature a guided tour of the operating line which includes the oldest railway bridge in the world – the Causey Arch. We then continue to the Hilton Hotel in Newcastle.

Day Two: Today we step back in time at the Beamish Open Air Museum, an award-winning attraction which vividly recreates life in the North from the early 1800s to the 1940s. This unique museum features a variety of recreated towns and villages where people dressed in costume actively relive the story of everyday life in the area.

Day Three: We embark on an afternoon Tyne cruise and sail under the Millennium Bridge to see a number of sights including Tynemouth Castle, the beautiful beaches of South Shields and maybe even spot some dolphins.

Day Four: This morning we travel to The National Railway Museum at Shildon which documents over 300 years of fascinating history. Marvel at iconic locomotives and browse over a million wonderful objects. We then visit the city of Durham with its iconic cathedral and impressive castle.

Day Five: We head to Alston then board the South Tynedale Heritage Railway for a journey through the beautiful unspoilt landscape of the North Pennines. Catch sight of deer and soaring birds of prey as we travel on a vintage locomotive to Lintley Halt.
