Step back in time on this fascinating tour celebrating Britains transport heritage. Experience the sights and sounds of yesteryear at the Beamish Festival of Transport, where vintage vehicles, steam engines, and classic motors bring history to life. Wander through the open-air museums period streets and interact with the working vehicles and exhibits. Also, explore Locomotion in Shildon, home to an impressive collection of historic locomotives and railway treasures, including some of the earliest steam engines. Gain a unique insight into the golden age of railways and transport. Later, enjoy free time in the historic city of York, where you can explore its charming streets, visit the iconic York Minster, or, for those interested, discover more railway history at the National Railway Museum.
The Hilton is situated in an outstanding riverside location with fantastic views of the Tyne and Quayside. Facilities include the Windows on the Tyne restaurant & bar, plus swimming pool, whirlpool, sauna and gym. Day One
We begin our journey from North Wales, heading to Shildon, home to Locomotion, where you’ll have time to explore this fascinating museum filled with historic locomotives and railway exhibits. Discover the stories behind these incredible machines before we continue to our hotel, the Hilton Newcastle Gateshead, where we’ll settle in for a comfortable stay.
Day Two
After a hearty breakfast at the hotel, we make our way to Beamish for the Festival of Transport, a celebration of vintage vehicles, steam engines, and classic motors in a unique open-air setting. Enjoy a full day exploring the museum’s period streets, trams, and exhibits, soaking up the sights and sounds of times gone by. Later, we return to the Hilton Newcastle Gateshead for a relaxing evening.
BDay Three
After checking out of the hotel, we travel to York, where you’ll have free time to explore this historic city at your own pace. Wander through the Shambles, admire the stunning York Minster, or take a stroll along the city walls, and for those still keen to explore the world of railways, the National Railway Museum offers a fascinating collection of historic locomotives and exhibits for you to explore. In the afternoon, we begin our journey home to North Wales, bringing our trip to a memorable close.
