Day One
We travel to Shildon, home to Locomotion, where there will be free time to explore this fascinating museum filled with historic locomotives and railway exhibits. Discover the stories behind these incredible machines before we continue to our hotel, the Hilton Newcastle Gateshead, where we stay for the next two nights.
Day Two
Today we make the short journey to the Beamish Museum, an award winning open-air living museum where you can step back in time and experience history from across the Northeast from the 1820s to the 1950s. This remarkable immersive experience lets you wander through meticulously recreated historic buildings and streets, where costumed individuals bring the past to life and give you a glimpse into the bygone days of North East England.
BDay Three
This morning we check out of our hotel and travel to York where there will be time at leisure to discover this magnificent city's sights and attractions. You may like to take a walk on the city walls, see the mighty York Minster, explore the "Shambles" with its ancient buildings or perhaps visit the Jorvik Centre and the excellent Castle. For those still keen to explore the world of railways, the National Railway Museum offers a fascinating collection of historic locomotives and exhibits for you to explore. We depart in the early afternoon and commence our homeward journey. (Please Note: Entrance into the museum is free but tickets must be pre booked prior to arrival via the National Railway Museum website: - www.railwaymuseum.org.uk)
