Picturesque North Devon has some of the most beautiful coastline in the British Isles, studded with tiny harbour-towns, quaint villages, lovely beaches and tranquil gardens. Discover the rugged coastline which affords dramatic seascapes and take in the charming traditional way of life.
Explore Clovelly village, a picturesque, historic, fishing village situated on the north Devon coast that time seems to have forgotten with its traditional 16th century whitewashed cottages, tiny harbour and cobbled streets.
You will also enjoy a visit to RHS Garden Rosemoor, an enchanting garden nestled in the beautiful Torridge Valley. Surrounded by woodland, the garden is rich in variety throughout every season and features inspiring planting displays enhanced by the natural beauty of Devon.
We will also spend time in Dunster, an old medieval village, which retains much of its original character and is dominated by its romantic Norman castle plus visit the charming twin resorts of Lynton and Lynmouth, spectacularly situated on the northern edge of the Exmoor National Park and linked by a cliff railway.
Situated within walking distance of Barnstaple town centre, the stylish Park hotel has recently undergone a major refurbishment and now offers modern facilities with a cosmopolitan feel. Day One
We travel south to Devon and the Park Hotel in the town of Barnstaple where we stay for the next four nights
Day Two
Today we travel to Bideford, a pretty port town situated on the banks of the River Torridge. Wander through the historic port with its many unique shops and delightful cafes before paying a visit to Bideford’s Victorian Pannier Market. Bideford’s Pannier Market takes place every Tuesday and Saturday with a variety of stalls selling a range of locally sourced fresh fish, crafts and gifts. This afternoon we travel to nearby RHS Garden Rosemoor, an enchanting 65-acre garden nestled in a sheltered valley in between Dartmoor and Exmoor National Parks. With many horticultural delights there is something for everyone to enjoy, including the largest rose garden in the South West, the mature Lady Anne’s Garden and award-winning Cool Garden. You will also be presented with a cream tea voucher which can be enjoyed at leisure either before or after you take a stroll around the gardens.
B, DDay Three
We spend a morning exploring Barnstaple with its elegant Georgian buildings and historic pannier market. In the afternoon we visit the timeless traffic free village of Clovelly, built on a 400ft cliff with no access for modern transport. On arrival we see a film show of the history of the village at the visitor centre, then browse the shops and craft centre before strolling down the steep cobbled street with its flower-bedecked cottages and winding side-alleys to the ancient fishing harbour, visiting Kingsley Museum and Fisherman's Cottage along the way. (Please note if you do not wish to walk back up to the street a Land Rover service is available).
B, DDay Four
This morning we visit the picturesque towns of Lynton and Lynmouth where you can take a ride on the water-powered lift that travels between the two historic towns, ascending from Lynmouth at the foot of the cliffs to Lynton perched some 500 feet above. From here we travel across the Exmoor National Park and visit the lovely village of Dunster with its castle and 17th century timber-framed market hall.
B, DDay Five
After breakfast we check-out and start our journey home.
