Day One
Our journey commences with an early departure as we head south to Dover for a ferry crossing to Calais. From here, we journey into Belgium for our overnight stay at the Radisson Blu Brugge hotel. There will be time this evening to explore the picturesque medieval city and enjoy dinner in one of the many restaurants the city has to offer.
Day Two
This morning we depart from Brugge and travel to the historic harbour city of Rotterdam, where we will enjoy a tour aboard the ss Rotterdam, the former flagship of the Holland-America Line. During the one-hour 'Sea Breeze Deluxe' experience, you will step back into the golden age of ocean travel as you explore the ship's impressive bow and bridge, along with the wheelhouse, captain's quarters and control room. Following the tour, we indulge in a delightful Royal Tea experience. Be welcomed with a glass of bubbles or soft drink, before enjoying a delicious selection of soup, sandwiches, wraps, muffins, fresh fruit and an array of sweet treats, including homemade nougat, brownies and macarons. Later this afternoon, we continue to Amsterdam and check in to the Leonardo Hotel Amsterdam Rembrandtpark, our home for the next three nights.
BDay Three
Today begins with a true taste of Holland as we visit Simonehoeve, a traditional cheese farm and clog workshop, where you can discover the country's famous crafts and local flavours. We then continue to the charming fishing village of Volendam, renowned for its picturesque harbour, colourful wooden houses and traditional Dutch character. Enjoy time to stroll through the quaint streets and canals, browse the local shops or perhaps take an optional boat trip across the water to Marken. Later, we travel to Zaandam and the beautifully preserved village of Zaanse Schans. Famous for its historic windmills, authentic wooden houses, museums and artisan shops, this unique area offers a wonderful glimpse into traditional Dutch life. There will also be free time to explore the attractions, shops and cafés in the centre of Zaandam.
BDay Four
Today we explore the renowned Golden Triangle route, linking the historic West Frisian towns of Hoorn, Medemblik and Enkhuizen. Enjoy a nostalgic journey through this fascinating region as we travel by traditional steam tram and historic boat, discovering its rich maritime heritage along the way. Our day begins in Enkhuizen, where we board a classic motor ship for a scenic cruise across the IJsselmeer to Medemblik. Here, there will be free time to explore the town's charming harbour, historic streets and relaxed atmosphere. We then continue with a memorable one-way steam train journey through the beautiful Dutch countryside to Hoorn. On arrival in Hoorn, there will be an opportunity to visit the locomotive workshop, station exhibition and traditional signal box before we return to the hotel after a delightful day of heritage and scenery.
BDay Five
This morning, enjoy some free time in Amsterdam, one of Europe's great cultural cities, known for its cobbled streets, elegant gabled houses, iconic canals and countless bicycles. Highlights include a relaxing canal cruise, the world-renowned Van Gogh Museum, the Rijksmuseum, the moving Anne Frank House, the city's diamond districts and the vibrant heart of the city, Dam Square, dominated by the impressive Royal Palace. After a day exploring this remarkable city, we make our way to Amsterdam port to board our DFDS ferry for the overnight sailing to Newcastle, departing late afternoon. On board, you can make use of the ship's facilities, including duty-free shopping, bars and restaurants, as well as live entertainment and a cinema.
B, DDay Six
We arrive in Newcastle this morning, where we disembark and rejoin our coach for the onward journey back to North Wales.
