Embrace the festive spirit on our short escape to Harrogate, a picturesque Victorian spa town renowned for its historic architecture and iconic tea rooms. This short break includes a visit to York's bustling St Nicholas Fayre, where the city bursts to life with charming stalls offering an array of festive treasures, local treats, and unique gifts. Youll have the opportunity to delve into the grandeur of Harewood House, one of England's treasured estates adorned with enchanting Christmas decor. After dusk, wander through the RHS Harlow Carr Gardens for a captivating display of festive lights, illuminating iconic features in a whole new way. Our festive adventure concludes when we embark on a festive 2 hour lunch cruise along the stunning Upper Peak Forest Canal to New Mills.
The Hilton Doubletree Harrogate sits in beautifully landscaped gardens overlooking Harrogate and is only a few minutes walk from the town centre. Facilities include a restaurant and piano lounge plus a spa with indoor swimming pool, jacuzzi, sauna and gymnasium. Day One
We travel across the Pennines into Yorkshire and on to the delightful spa town of Harrogate and the Doubletree by Hilton Harrogate Hotel. There will be some free time to relax and freshen up before we depart the hotel this evening for the unmissable after-dark spectacle of lights at RHS Garden Harlow Carr. See the garden in breathtaking beauty as amazing illuminations light your way around the spectacular Glow trail.
Day Two
Today we soak up the medieval charm of York at Christmas and enjoy a relaxing day out at the wonderful St Nicholas Fayre, the most popular event in York’s Christmas Market calendar offering everything from special gifts to the very best of local produce, all in a magically festive atmosphere. With over 100 traditional style chalets with twinkling fairy-lights, Victorian costumed traders, a traditional fun fair, carol singers and delicious smells of roasted chestnuts and hot mulled wine, it’s the perfect way to set the mood for the beginning of the festive season!
BDay Three
This morning we travel to Harewood House where we will enjoy a truly festive experience as we explore the state rooms dressed for Christmas and throughout into the surrounding grounds. The afternoon is then free to explore Harrogate with its handsome historic buildings and verdant gardens, one of Yorkshire's most elegant destinations. Take a walk from the famous Betty's Tearooms down Montpellier Hill and experience the cosmopolitan atmosphere of the area. Take a stroll in the beautiful Valley Gardens and perhaps visit the Mercer Art Gallery and the Royal Pump Room Museum for a fascinating insight into Harrogate's spa history.
BDay Four
This morning we check out of the hotel and travel to Whaley Bridge where we will enjoy 2 hour peaceful cruise along the stunning Upper Peak Forest Canal to New Mills on board the Judith Mary II. Relax as we navigate our way through the last section of the Upper Peak Forest Canal built in 1800, travelling in a north westerly direction through outstanding countryside, with magnificent views of the mountains all around. Whilst on board we will enjoy Christmas Lunch with hot turkey sandwiches served with roast potatoes, stuffing, pigs in blankets, and mince pies and cream for dessert! Following our cruise, we re-join the coach and commence our homeward journey.
