Hop Around the Hebrides

Day One

We travel north through the beautiful Scottish Borders before continuing into the spectacular Western Highlands. Surrounded by some of Scotland's finest mountain scenery, we arrive in Fort William, where we check in to the Alexandra Hotel for our overnight stay.

Day Two

We continue our journey through the spectacular Scottish Highlands towards the Isle of Skye. Travelling along the shores of Loch Cluanie, we pause for a photo stop at the iconic Eilean Donan Castle, one of Scotland's most photographed and admired castles.
After our stop, we are joined by a knowledgeable local guide as we continue to Kyle of Lochalsh. Crossing the Skye Bridge, we enjoy a scenic drive through the Isle of Skye, passing beneath the dramatic Cuillin Hills and through the colourful harbour town of Portree. Our guide brings the landscapes and stories of the island to life as we continue north to Uig.
From here we sail to Lochmaddy on North Uist before continuing to Benbecula, where we check in to the Dark Island Hotel for our two-night stay.

Day Three

Today we are joined by a knowledgeable local guide as we discover the rich history, spectacular scenery and unique island life of Benbecula, North Uist, South Uist and Eriskay.
Our journey takes us through Benbecula, where we learn about the island's fascinating past, from medieval strongholds and Clanranald history to its important role during the Second World War and the Cold War. Continuing into North Uist, we admire miles of unspoilt sandy beaches, tranquil lochs and sweeping moorland, while hearing stories of ancient battles, early Christian settlements and traditional crofting communities. With clear weather, there may even be distant views of the remote St Kilda archipelago.
As we travel south, we pass the beautiful nature reserves and historic sites of South Uist, including the ruins of Ormacleit Castle, the monument to Flora MacDonald and centuries-old chapels that reflect the islands' rich heritage. We then cross to the charming Isle of Eriskay, famous for its hardy native ponies and its connection with Bonnie Prince Charlie, who first landed here in 1745. Throughout the day, breathtaking coastal scenery, white sandy beaches and abundant wildlife combine to showcase the very best of the Outer Hebrides.

Day Four

This morning we board the ferry from Berneray to Leverburgh on the magnificent Isle of Harris. On arrival, our first stop is the historic St Clement's Church, one of Scotland's finest medieval churches, renowned for its impressive architecture and centuries of island history.
We then continue north through Harris's dramatic mountain landscapes before visiting the world-famous beaches of Luskentyre and Seilebost. Here, dazzling white sands and crystal-clear turquoise waters create breathtaking scenery that is often compared to the Caribbean.
Our journey continues with a visit to the picturesque Isle of Scalpay, renowned for its traditional fishing heritage and peaceful island setting, before travelling onward to the Isle of Lewis. We arrive in Stornoway later this afternoon and check in to the Caladh Inn, our home for the next two nights.

Day Five

This morning we are joined by a knowledgeable local guide for a fascinating tour of the Isle of Lewis, the largest island in the Outer Hebrides.
Travelling north, we visit the spectacular Butt of Lewis, where towering cliffs and the island's famous lighthouse stand against the Atlantic Ocean, before continuing to the beautiful beach at Port of Ness. We then step back in time at the restored Gearrannan Blackhouse Village, where traditional thatched croft houses offer a fascinating insight into island life in centuries gone by.
Later we visit the impressive Carloway Broch, one of Scotland's best-preserved Iron Age towers, before calling at the remarkable Callanish Stones. Dating back around 5,000 years, this extraordinary stone circle is one of Scotland's most important prehistoric monuments and provides a fitting finale to our exploration of this remarkable island.

Day Six

We leave the islands behind this morning as we board the ferry to Ullapool on the Scottish mainland. Arriving in Ullapool, we continue our journey through the magnificent Highland scenery, with time to stop for lunch en route, before travelling south to Dunblane. On arrival, we check in to our hotel for our final overnight stay in Scotland.

Day Seven

After breakfast we begin our journey home, travelling once more through the beautiful Scottish Borders before returning to North Wales, bringing our memorable Hebridean adventure to a close.
