Northumberlands sweeping coastline and rich heritage provide a magnificent backdrop to this break. Towering above golden sands, Bamburgh Castle commands an unforgettable position overlooking the sea. Behind its imposing walls, grand interiors and fascinating collections reveal the stories of the people who shaped this remarkable coastal stronghold.
The Alnwick Garden offers a different kind of splendour, with imaginative planting, beautifully designed spaces and the spectacular Grand Cascade at its heart. Take time to appreciate the gardens changing colours and perspectives as you explore.
There is also time to enjoy Newcastles historic streets and admire the famous bridges spanning the Tyne. From coastal grandeur to garden beauty, this is a rewarding journey through the North Easts scenery and history.
Newcastle - Tyne Bridge
Overlooking the River Tyne and its famous bridges, the Hilton Newcastle Gateshead enjoys a striking riverside setting within easy reach of the Quayside and Newcastles city centre. Air-conditioned bedrooms feature television, telephone, safe, hairdryer, iron and ironing board, and tea and coffee making facilities, with lift access to all floors.
The Windows on the Tyne restaurant and bar make the most of the setting, offering river views as you enjoy a meal or a drink. For relaxation and exercise, the leisure club features an indoor swimming pool, whirlpool, sauna and well-equipped gym.

Bamburgh Castle Access: Wheelchairs and walking aids can be used only as far as the Kings Hall, approximately halfway through the rooms. A video shows the remaining rooms for visitors unable to continue.
Day One
We travel to Newcastle, passing the striking Angel of the North before arriving during the afternoon. After checking in to the Hilton, there is time to begin exploring at your own pace. Perhaps stroll along the Quayside, taking in the famous bridges and views across the Tyne, or head into the city centre to explore its historic streets. This evening, choose from Newcastle’s varied restaurants and welcoming pubs, with plenty of inviting places around the waterfront and city centre, or enjoy a meal in the hotel’s restaurant if you prefer.
Day Two
A local guide joins us for our Northumberland excursion. At Bamburgh Castle, admire the dramatic coastal setting and explore the impressive interiors, subject to the access restrictions noted below. We then continue to The Alnwick Garden for time among its landscaped spaces and spectacular Grand Cascade before returning to our hotel. Garden admission is included; Alnwick Castle is not part of the visit.
BDay Three
After breakfast, we check out and travel to York. Enjoy free time to explore the Shambles, admire York Minster or walk a stretch of the historic walls. You may prefer a leisurely lunch among the characterful streets before we depart during the afternoon for our homeward journey.
