The Loenfjord Hotel is a comfortable hotel situated in a riverside location in the village of Loen, surrounded by mountain and fjord views and just a short walk from the village centre. Day One
We begin our leisurely journey to Hull, where we'll board a comfortable P&O North Sea ferry for an overnight crossing to Rotterdam. After settling into your cabin, relax and take advantage of the onboard amenities as we sail across the North Sea.
Day Two
Arriving in Rotterdam this morning, we disembark and travel through the Netherlands into northern Germany to our overnight hotel in Neumünster.
DDay Three
We continue our journey north, crossing the German-Danish border near Flensburg. From there, we travel along Denmark's road network to Hirtshals, where we board an overnight ferry heading to Norway.
BDay Four
We arrive in Stavanger, where our ferry makes a scheduled stop before continuing on a scenic voyage along Norway's rugged western coast, sailing past majestic fjords and islands on the way to Bergen, arriving early afternoon. Upon disembarkation, we make the short transfer to our hotel. The rest of the day is yours to explore Bergen, known as the "Capital of the Fjords." Wander its historic wharf, bustling markets, and charming streets at your leisure.
Day Five
We depart Bergen this morning and embark on a scenic drive towards Loen. Our journey begins by crossing the impressive Nordhordland Bridge, before descending towards the Sognefjord and arriving at the small port of Oppedal. Here, we take a short ferry ride across Norway's longest and deepest fjord to Lavik. Though brief, this crossing offers stunning views of the fjord's serene waters and the dramatic mountains that rise above - perfect for capturing unforgettable photos. Once across, we continue our drive east, following the northern shore of the Sognefjord, where the road winds along the water's edge, providing ever-changing vistas. We then head north, travelling alongside the beautiful Lake Jølster, to the popular village of Skei where we will have some time to relax and take in the surrounding scenery. We then embark on the final leg of our journey to Loen, a peaceful village nestled amidst towering mountains and fjords. Here we check in to the comfortable Loenfjord hotel, where we will be staying for the next three nights.
B, DDay Six
This morning, we embark on an excursion to Briksdal Glacier, a striking arm of the Jostedalsbreen Glacier. Our journey begins with a scenic coach drive through the Oldedalen Valley, where we are surrounded by towering mountains, cascading waterfalls, and lush greenery. Arriving at the Briksdal visitor center in the late morning, we board electric Troll Cars for a scenic ride up towards the glacier, stopping around 700 meters from its face. Here, you can breathe in the crisp mountain air and marvel at the glacier's icy blue tones and dramatic landscape. We return to Loen this afternoon where you can relax in the hotel or maybe take a ride on the Loen Skylift to the top of Mount Hoven where you'll be treated to panoramic views of Nordfjord and the surrounding peaks. At the summit you can also relax unwind with a drink at the mountaintop bar while soaking in the breathtaking scenery.
B, DDay Seven
Today we have another day of spectacular scenery ahead of us as we initially travel north to the village of Hellesylt, where we'll board a boat for a memorable cruise on the Geirangerfjord to Geiranger. As we glide along, we'll pass iconic landmarks such as the Seven Sisters Waterfall and the abandoned Knivsflå Alpine Farm. This Afternoon, after some free time to explore Geiranger, we'll ascend the famous Eagle Road for panoramic views of Geirangerfjord before heading back to Loen, traveling along routes that showcase the dramatic Norwegian landscape, including Hornindal, home to Europe's deepest lake.
B, DDay Eight
Today, we depart from Loen and travel south, stopping at the Bøyabreen Glacier viewpoint. Here, you'll have a chance to admire this magnificent glacier, a wonderful example of Norway's natural beauty. Continuing our route, we travel along the tip of the Fjærlandsfjord, before arriving at Kaupanger. Here, we visit the Sogn Folk Museum, which offers a captivating insight into traditional rural Norwegian life, showcasing historic buildings, local crafts, and fascinating exhibits. Following our visit, we continue along the banks of the Sognefjord before boarding a ferry for a short, scenic crossing over the fjord to the charming village of Balestrand. Upon arrival, we check into the renowned Kviknes Hotel, a historic fjord-side property where we stay for the next two nights.
B, DDay Nine
After breakfast, we drive to Vangsnes and ascend the spectacular Vikafjell Mountain Road. This scenic drive offers breathtaking panoramas as we traverse rugged mountain terrain, before descending into the picturesque Vinje Valley and continuing to the charming village of Flåm. Upon arrival, you'll have free time to explore Flåm's quaint shops, scenic waterfront, and stunning surroundings. This afternoon, we embark on the world-famous Flåm Railway, widely regarded as one of the most beautiful train journeys in the world. As the train winds through dramatic mountain landscapes, you'll be treated to views of cascading waterfalls, deep ravines, and towering peaks, culminating at the high-altitude station of Myrdal. After a brief stop, we return to Flåm, before traveling back to Balestrand.
B, DDay Ten
This morning, we say goodbye to Balestrand and set off on a journey past the remarkable Borgund Stave Church, one of Norway's best-preserved medieval wooden churches, offering a captivating insight into the country's rich cultural heritage. We will pause briefly for a photo opportunity before continuing through the scenic Hemsedal ski region, famed for its dramatic mountain landscapes, as we make our way to our overnight hotel in Hoten.
B, DDay Eleven
After an early breakfast, we say goodbye to Norway and board the Color Line fast ferry at Larvik for a journey back to Denmark. Relax and enjoy the ship's facilities during the crossing before we arrive Hirtshals late morning. After disembarking we make our way back to Germany and our overnight hotel in Neumünster.
B, DDay Twelve
We depart Neumünster and journey through Germany and the Netherlands, arriving in Rotterdam by late afternoon. Here, we board a ferry for our overnight crossing back to the UK.
BDay Thirteen
After arriving in Hull and disembarking, we travel to York, where you'll have free time to explore the historic city and enjoy lunch. Later, we embark on the final leg of our journey back to North Wales, bringing our unforgettable adventure to a close, filled with cherished memories of Norway's stunning fjords, charming villages, and breathtaking landscapes.
